Abstract

The article considers various approaches to the study of wisdom, the development of philosophical and psychological understanding of this phenomenon. The typical dynamics of research approaches is shown − from wisdom as a cognitive or personal characteristic to a holistic multi-aspect phenomenon. The similarities and differences of existing explicit theories are demonstrated, as well as the culture, age and gender-related features of implicit ideas of wisdom and peculiarities of its manifestation. In this regard, the limitations of existing methods for measuring wisdom are noted. Prospects for further research are indicated.
