The place of Latin America in a multipolar world: views and approaches of Russian researchers

The purpose of this article is to review Russian publications devoted to defining the place and role of Latin America in the emerging multipolar world. The author shows what are the main theoretical approaches of Russian researchers to understanding multipolarity and the new world order, the main research questions asked by researchers in the context of the analysis of Latin America as one of the economic and political pillars of the global world. The article examines the main scenarios for the transformation of the multipolar world proposed by Russian scientists, as well as scenarios for regional processes, their challenges and prospects. While keeping some traditions of Soviet Latin American Studies, contemporary Russian researches managed to develop them substantially. However, the author shows that some Russian scientists are considering Latin American political, economic and foreign policy trends as part of the paradigm of multipolar world and of the global competition between the USA and some other nations; this approach leads sometimes to certain distortions in conclusions and remarks.
