Venezuelas foreign trade in the first half of the XIX century and Russian foreign trade interests

The article deals with the development of foreign trade in Venezuela in the first half of the XIX century. The author reveals the main indicators of foreign trade relations of the Republic in the period after independence, notes the reasons that hindered international economic relations. Special attention is paid to the dynamics of foreign trade operations, the characteristics of the range of exports and imports, and their volumes. The article reveals the features of trade relations between Venezuela and its leading partners, shows the significance and prevalence of smuggling, and determines the impact of foreign trade on the economic development of the country. The article analyses the position of Russian diplomatic circles in relation to the Declaration of independence of the country, and reveals the economic interests of St. Petersburg in South America. The article is based on published archival documents of the Russian Ministry of foreign Affairs, as well as little-known sources in Spanish and English.
