Russia–Mexico: historical parallels and relations between the two countries. To the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations

The peculiarity of Russian-Mexican relations is that they have developed under the conditions of coincidence of the main historical events in each country. We refer to the war for independence in Mexico and the war against the invasion of Napoleon in Russia, the Benito Juarez’s Reforma and Alexander’s II reforms, the Mexican Revolution of 1910—1917 and the October Revolution of 1917 in Russia, the neoliberal reforms carried out in both countries at the end of the 20th century, and the measures to correct them in progress. If such coincidences can be considered almost absolute in time, in some cases their content coincidences were relative judging by their outcome. Nevertheless, the absolute and relative coincidences have left their mark on the relations between Russia and Mexico, which have almost always been characterized by mutual understan-ding in high degree and the similar foreign policy principles.
