Scientists evaluated the state of Russian-Spanish relations

The jubilee XV Russian-Spanish symposium, held on October 1-2, was devoted to the topic "Russia and Spain: the potential and problems of the development of bilateral relations". The annual scientific event, organized by the Center for Iberian Studies of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Spanish research centers, in 2019 was held at Saint Petersburg State University and was integrated into the program of the IV International Forum “Russia and Ibero-America in a Globalizing World: History and Modernity”. Touching upon a wide range of issues, the participants paid special attention to the economic agenda of Spain and Russia in the context of trade wars and the sanctions policy implementation. In this context the issues of bilateral trade and investment, budget policy, sustainable development problems, innovative potential of Spain and the Russian Federation were discussed. Another large thematic block of the Symposium consisted of the reports on the study of various types of diplomacy of the two countries, including scientific, cultural, and defense diplomacy. Spain’s domestic political agenda did not go unnoticed. The changes in the Spain’s political spectrum and the problem of Catalonia were discussed among others.
