Abstract

The article examines perspectives of renewable energy sources’ integration into energy balance in Latin American countries in order to provide sustainable development and reach global greenhouse gas reduction goals as well as the link between these issues and international trade and regional free trade agreements. Latin American countries actively participate in international initiatives dedicated to climate change mitigation and one of the instruments is switching towards renewables. International trade and free trade agreements is one of the issues that could both stimulate or become barrier to renewables’ implementation. Thus, Latin American countries have to adopt trade policies and free trade agreement provisions in accordance to energy market as well as sustainable development goals.
