Abstract

The story of a little-known episode of the confrontation between the two superpowers in the era of the "cold war" in the field of culture in distant Brazil. The author is a participant in the described events. Some first and last names have been changed. On April 7, 1969, on the front page of the provincial newspaper «Diário do Pará», it was printed in large letters: «The Russians forced the hall to sing the «International» This news was immediately picked up by the largest Brazilian federal newspapers «O Globo» and «Jornal do Brasil». The country was ruled by a military dictatorship led by Marshal Arthur da Costa e Silva, one of the most repressive dictators in the history of Brazil. The states were also headed by the military, and strict censorship was introduced under the full control of the military police.
