AbstractDespite South Africa’s extensive trade and economic ties with Asian and European countries, relations with neighboring countries, in particular, with members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are of primary importance. South Africa and the SADC countries are on the one hand strategic partners and on the other competitors in global commodity markets, because their economies depend mainly on the export of natural resources. South Africa retains a leading role in investing in African countries, which also confirms the priority of this area for the South African government. Despite its rich and diverse mineral resource base, South Africa lacks or has a small amount of significant resources that it can replenish from SADC countries.   In favor of strengthening cooperation with SADC countries, it should also be noted that South African companies are highly competitive in SADC markets compared to their European or Asian rivals. For example, they have the advantage of local knowledge based on many years of experience and are in close links unlike companies from other continents. South Africans have a lot of experience in rapid training of unskilled personnel, so they are able to prepare a labor force for a specific project from local residents and citizens of neighboring states. These companies have experienced managers and engineers who are familiar with working conditions in Africa and are ready to deal with projects anywhere on the continent. South African mining suppliers and infrastructure firms have a significant impact on the mineral value chains in Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole.
