Abstract

Adult romantic attachment is an important and promising subject of psychological research, which has an application in psychotherapy of various groups of patients and couples. The objective of the present study is to adapt the Experience in Close Relationships – Revised questionnaire on a Russian sample and to verify its construct validity on the basis of correlations with the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory and Hardiness Survey. The sample consisted of 793 students of technical, humanitarian and medical disciplines from Moscow, Cheboksary, Ryazan and Tula (369 females, 417 males, 7 undefined;aged 18–25, M = 20, SD = 2.1). We managed to compose a compact 14-item version of this questionnaire, which reflects best the studied phenomena. Confirmatory factor analysis of this model confirmed the structure of the inventory (CFI = .958, SRMR = .036, RMSEA = .047). The value of the Cronbach’s α for the anxious style of attachment scale is .881, for the avoidant style of attachment scale is .785. Pearson correlation analysis confirmed the positive relationship of the questionnaire’s scales with the scales of negative time perspective and negative relationship with the scales of positive time perspective and hardiness, which matches the main statements of the theory of adult attachment. The retest showed

high stability of the scales (r = .86 for anxious style of attachment and r = .77 for avoidant style of

attachment). Thus, the short Russian version of the Experience in Close Relationships – Revised questionnaire

is a valid and reliable instrument for the evaluation of styles of adult romantic attachment.

Keywordsadult attachment, romantic attachment, avoidant style, anxious style, secure style, hardiness, time perspective
