Abstract

The article analyzes the measures taken by the Mongolian authorities to prevent the COVID-19. The analysis is based on materials from Mongolian and Russian media. The article discusses the measures of state sanitary and social support, political preferences, economic consequences of the quarantine, and common misconceptions in society about the true causes of low morbidity.

The principle of the unity of the logical and the historical was used in this article, i.e. the events taking place in Mongolia are described in each section in chronological order. Mongolia managed to prevent the spread of the disease by timely restricting entry into the country, establishing strict control over visitors and timely identification of those in contact with them. The introduction of strict measures of observation and self-isolation made it possible to prevent deaths and internal infections.

The following measures turned out to be positive: observance of the restrictive regime by the population, reduction of mass events, introduction and development of distance learning forms. Strict adherence to the sanitary and quarantine rules were carried out in accordance with WHO recommendations. The situation of tough self-isolation, negatively affected the economic situation of the country, suffered: the tourism industry, foreign trade, education and culture. The success of measures against the pandemic depended on foreign policy and domestic political stability. Procurement, delivery of vaccines and the very procedure of vaccination of the population were resolved in difficult socio-economic conditions.

A positive example for other countries is the traditional Mongolian philosophy of balance, which made it possible to delay the spread of the disease in Mongolia, study world experience and determine the next steps in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
